Jack “Buddy” Melamed, 88, died April 13, 2017 in Houston, Texas. He was born Jun 27, 1928 in Galveston, Texas to Joseph and Sadye Ray Melamed.

He served in the US Army 1952 thru 1954 during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1956.

He married Marlene Faden on June 16, 1957. They were close, lifetime partners until Marlene’s death on September 27, 2012. Buddy was a loving husband and father.   He always put his family first, with committed love to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent many years taking care of Marlene at home after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. When she moved to Seven Acres he would spend every single day with her to make sure she was taken care of and to help her with her meals.

Buddy enjoyed bowling, table tennis, fishing, and, most importantly, family. He enjoyed getting his two sons involved with bowling, table tennis, and fishing. He never missed a Little League game. He became very involved in financial investing after his knees could no longer support his table tennis playing. He was inducted into the Ronnie Arrow Jewish Sports Hall of Fame on June 13, 2004 for table tennis.

Buddy was predeceased by his wife Marlene, older brothers Gerald Melamed and Melvin Littman, and their wives Elaine and Shirley, and brother-in-laws Alfred Selber and Roke Lieberman. Surviving family members include his sons Larry (Wendy) Melamed and Gary (Laura) Melamed, sister Rosalyn Lieberman, grandchildren Andrea (Ryan) Saltzman, Ian (Caitlin) Roth, and Hannah Hester, great-grandson Jonah Saltzman and great-granddaughter Ellie Saltzman.
