Rachelle Gross, 76, died January 5th at the Methodist Hospital after a heart attack.
She leaves her husband of 53 years, Jim Gross, their 2 children, Susan Hoyle and Steve Gross, 3 grandchildren Jacob Gross, Audrey and Wyatt Hoyle, her brother Julius Hochstein, and many close friends.
Born and raised in Houston, the daughter of Sam and Selma Hochstein, she was an active member of her community.
Rachelle attended Bellaire High School and graduated from the University of Houston. She met her husband, Jim Gross, shortly before graduating, and the two were married in 1965. She had a long career teaching children at various schools, including the Hebrew Academy.
An active part of her grandchildren’s lives, Rachelle cherished every moment with them. She volunteered at their schools, and helped promote their development through scouting and music. She was an avid artist and enjoyed creating and sharing her work with friends and family.
A second generation Houstonian, Rachelle was a fixture in the Jewish community of Southwest Houston. She was a lifelong member of Beth Yeshurun and will be laid to rest Monday, January 8th at 2pm at the Beth Yeshurun Cemetery on Post Oak. Celebration of her life to follow the service.
