On May 7, 2018, Rose Pryzant Gordon passed away peacefully, just short of her ninety-third birthday, at home as she had always wished.
Rose was born in Europe to Harry and Dora Pryzant. Her family emigrated to Willis, Texas when she was a child. Rose had five sisters, Eva, Fannie, Louise, Sara and Shella, the only surviving sister. She cherished the memories of growing up in Willis, and told story after story of working at the general store owned by her father and learning to drive in a red pickup truck.
Rose met Irving Gordon in Austin, Texas when he was briefly stationed there during World War II. They corresponded during his time abroad, and he came back to Texas to marry her, the woman he would share the rest of his life with. Although Irving passed away five years ago, Rose mentioned him almost every day. The lessons she learned growing up in her father’s general store stayed with her as Irving trusted and relied upon her business instincts.
She is survived by hers sons, Marc, Paul and Hal (Cathey), her grandchildren Devin Tomiak (Matt), Forrest Gordon (Erin), Barrie Gruner (Jared), Audrey Rowe (Ben) and five great grandchildren, Jack and Shepherd Tomiak, Max and Billlie Gruner, and Oliver Gordon. Her grandson Grant Gordon predeceased her.
Rose Pryzant Gordon’s funeral will be on Thursday, May 10, 2018, 11:00 am, at Beth Yeshurun Cemetery, 1037 North Post Oak Road, Houston, Texas 77055.
